Preventative Medicine

Therapy is not just for mental illness. It is for mental wellness.

There are times when we are all stressed out, we are tired, and we need a hand. Life is challenging; regardless of age, this is all our first go at it.

A time of emotional distress is a vital time to reach out to a mental health professional.

But what if we approached mental healthcare like physical healthcare and tried our hand at a preventative approach?

Therapy is self-care. It is preventative “medicine.”

We all play multiple roles daily: parent, caregiver, employee, coworker, sibling, and spouse. The list goes on. Life never stops, and we rarely get the break we desperately need. That is where the importance of self-care comes in. Self-care is a warm blanket and a book. It can be a nail appointment or a spa day.

Too often, we work, show up, be present, check the things off our lists, and hope we get a chance for self-care. A moment to do something that refills the cup we’ve been pouring from. But what if you scheduled that break? Imagine if you took the occasional hour out of your day to check in with someone. To unload, to rest, to reset.

Therapy doesn’t treat only mental illness. It promotes wellness, reveals strengths, and encourages and fosters personal growth when utilized regularly. But it is also a place to put the heavy things of daily life down for a while.

Seeking therapy does not mean you are weak. It does not mean you are in any way deficient. It means you are proactive about your health and wellness. It means you value your mental health as well as your physical health.

I encourage you to reach out and add an appointment with me as part of your self-care routine.
